The following is from Burt Parker
DATA ELEMENT definition
'A formalized
REPRESENTATION of an
ITEM OF INTEREST
(fact, proposition, or observation)
ABOUT
SOMETHING
(person, place, process, object,
concept, association, or event)
[is there anything else?!?!! Help me out here...]
suitable for communication, interpretation, or processing by humans, or automated means;
AND considered indivisible within a
specific universe of discourse.
(The thing represented may be assumed, given,
measured, perceived, or otherwise determined.)'
Note that I do NOT claim this as my personal definition of what is a data element. I could not have derived this opinion of such a definition without my participation within the 'L8' *incubater*..., which I view as a privilege..., most particularly with regards to the 'free-for-all' PROFESSIONAL discussion that it has entailed--------!!!.
